Over the past 5 months I have written about my hearing loss in KCW Today’s Health Section and have discussed how using the invisible Lyric Hearing Aid System has transformed my life (in a nutshell…I can hear again). To recap a little, my hearing had been ‘going’ for years and finally had to do something about it. I was unimpressed by NHS waiting lists and choice of hearing aids, and felt I was simply being ‘sold to’ when going to a High Street ‘specialist retailer’ – I was not confident at what level they could be considered ‘expert’ audiologists.

I eventually plucked up courage and met with Rony Ganguly, the owner of Pindrop Hearing (clinics on Harley Street and in Chelsea) and a professional Clinical Audiologist. In terms of expertise he is a former Consultant Audiologist for the NHS and University Lecturer (and is currently an external examiner at UCL) and well experienced in such areas as Paediatric Audiology, advanced Auditory and Vestibular (to do with the inner ear and balance) diagnostics.

Talking with Rony about my hearing was an eye-opening (or ear-opening) experience. His main area of interest is hearing loss, adult auditory rehabilitation and the provision of advanced digital hearing aids. While conducting my hearing test, he took great pains to explain every aspect of my hearing loss, and at no point did I ever feel rushed or ‘lost’ in jargon. I really learned a lot…including that I have quite small and delicate ear canals!

Having had my hearing test, I naturally wanted the best solution: something unnoticeable and modern. Fortunately, going to a private audiologist such as PIndrop Hearing means they are not tied to older technology (NHS) or to single brands (High Street), and so can recommend an array of solutions across price ranges.

My hearing is important to my professional and social life. I want expert knowledge from my Audiologist; I want the best technological solutions (within my price range) and I want to feel that I am receiving intelligent, empathetic care. For me this simply means going to a Private Clinical Audiologist. Personally? I’m delighted with Pindrop Hearing.
